By addressing the paradox of choice, RentPro should be able to help users confidently navigate between trusted providers and better-value options. Streamlining decisions, surfacing savings, and making vehicle rentals smarter, faster, and more intuitive.
Having lived in many countries that offer peer-to-peer car rental services,
I always felt conflicted about which service provided me the best value.
Here's a list of the apps I sampled as a user and as a seller.
RentPro was born from deep immersion in the rental ecosystem, personally booking with multiple providers and interviewing users in airports, lots, and events to uncover real pain points.
I mapped customer journeys on-site to understand rental operations and analyzed regional apps to uncover UX strengths and gaps.
Conversations revealed common frustrations and desired features.

I wanted to build a peer-to-peer vehicle rental platform to give drivers and renters equal footing. Geolocation sits at the core, connecting private listers of cars, bikes and scooters with renters nearby, turning what is typically a corporate-dominated space into a community-driven one.
The product required a precise approach to information architecture. Traditional rental companies strip out details that genuinely influence decisions, so Rent Pro surfaces them: model year, trim, tyre type, Isofix points, mileage allowance, deposits and discounts. Every data point was chosen to reduce friction and make renting accessible regardless of age or budget.
Scalability
This initial happy path established a logical direction for the product. As the scope expanded, it became clear that RentPro was evolving into a large scale system. This shift pushed me to prioritize a solid information architecture and a well structured sitemap to support future growth.
Decision making
The core of the rental experience is defined in this stage. Since the introduction of hourly and minute-based rentals in late 2017, the question of value has become central. Users are now presented with options that cater to specific use cases, such as a quick grocery run or an evening out with friends, contrasting with traditional rentals from multinational car companies. Integrating these vehicles into the ecosystem was crucial to allow users to make informed decisions based on real data.
Practicality
Here, I introduced a touch of playfulness to the app through widgets, selection screens, loading screens, and subtle animations. At the same time, I ensured the vehicle information was clearly presented, maintaining a seamless UX throughout. Each car and its class are prominently displayed, reinforcing the product’s theme of transparency.
I also really enjoy sketching the experience out and playing around with features that would keep users interested in using the product.

Early prototypes highlighted the importance of creating an experience that felt enjoyable and approachable. I wanted users to feel welcomed, not just as renters, but as explorers with the freedom to choose any type of vehicle, even the unconventional or fun ones.
While the core functionality centres around enabling users to book any kind of vehicle, the app prioritizes high-demand categories like cars, scooters, and moving vans to ensure a streamlined and familiar experience, while still leaving room for discovery and flexibility.
Engagement: I tried to explore making the interactions colourful i.e.
having the rental cards in the brand’s palette. Considering accessibility constraints I decided that this idea was more for fun instead of limiting friction, so I decided to drop it.
Outcome driven: My core goal was to ensure that users felt fully informed at every step, clearly understanding all costs, potential savings, and rental rules. Transparency and clarity were non-negotiable to build trust and reduce friction in the decision-making process.

Smarter Payment Choices
Choosing the right payment method while planning a trip can be tricky. During onboarding, users can upload their payment methods but I wanted to make that useful beyond setup. At checkout, RentPro surfaces which card gives you the best deal, insurance perks, or added coverage, so you always pay smart.
The next step is to add the reservation to the wallet or even access it from the account menu.

The Tooltip in the widget tells the user what kind of rental it is, a private owner or a shop. Private owners list their vehicles through RentPro, turning the platform into an end-to-end vehicle rental tool.
The Widget automatically matches the brand or shop’s color, making options more recognizable at a glance. Users can also save their favorites for quick access later.

The app needed to solve more than one challenge. Initially, I set out to improve the car rental experience, but as I explored the problem space further, I discovered broader opportunities. The platform could enable users to share unconventional vehicles beyond cars. In markets like the Netherlands and Denmark, where cycling culture and waterways are integral to daily life, extending rentals to bicycles and boats became a natural progression.

Simplicity wins – Too many choices cause friction; smart defaults, pre-tailored options and prioritization help.
Trust is earned – Users renting out vehicles or boats care deeply about insurance, security, and who they're renting to.
Contextual design matters – Showing users the right option at the right moment (e.g., pulling payment method during checkout) is more helpful than overloading them upfront.
Systems thinking – I enjoyed architecting a system where public and private rental ecosystems could intersect smoothly.
Building RentPro helped me explore the intersection of UX, trust, and transportation. It was a joy to combine a meticulous design process with real-world insights from my own experiences renting and hosting.
